THE POPE ON AIDS, DISCOURAGING CONDOMS - HORRIFYING OR LEGIT?

Sylver wrote:

Warmest greetings, Dr. Bri.

Writing to the slush pile of things ye'll probably never see, to ask yer opinion on Pope Ratzinger's recent words regarding AIDS in Africa. I'll include a link to the BBC news report, but in short, he says that condoms are immoral and "actually spread the disease". I'll belay my squawking retorts about how dare he tell anyone to steer clear of something that could save their lives and all that, and defer to your wisdom.

The article in question:

Thank you so much for your time.

Grateful to you for your music since I was two years old.

All my love,

WICKED

David Riley wrote:

Hi Brian

Did you enjoy Wicked [last] week?

We saw it when it first opened and weren't that sure about it - but we were a long way back.

We went again the same night as you, but sat in the front stalls, and loved it. The band were on top form.

We also went to see We Will Rock You a few weeks back. Great show - brings tears to the eyes

Cheers
David

Brian replied:

I love it, David ... have seen it about 5 times ... mainly with Kerry. But also once with Idina, and once with her understudy.

Cheers!

ZANDRA RHODES IN MEXICO!!! 3RE LECTURE IN MEXICO CITY
AND SOME UNKNOWN INFORMATION (FOR US) REGARDIND YOUR OUTFIT IN THE 70's

Francisco Arellano wrote:

Dear Brian,

This is us again. We are e-mailing you back in order to tell you we were able to attend the 3rd lecture Zandra Rhodes gave here in Mexico this Saturday 14th March . It was quite interesting indeed. At the end of the event the attendants were also able to get a picture taken with her. When we showed her an old black and white picture from the 70's, he immediately spotted you in a white pleated stunning outfit stating she had made it for you and added something we didn't know: she said that such outfit had been stolen from you in Holand, so she had to do it again, and to our surprise (again!) she immediately and spontaneously offered to put her autograph on the picture (please see the pictures attached). It was a thrilling occasion for us since it is not common for us to get in touch with Queen-related people in our country.

There will also be an exhibition of some of Zandra Rhodes' designs in Mexico at the Franz Mayer Museum from 29th May to August 2nd (http://queenmexico.blogspot.com/2009/03/zandra-rhodes-conferencias-en-mexico-13.html).

INTERVIEW

Beryl Wright wrote:

Dear Brian,

I've just watched the interview with Rick Wakeman, and I have to admit it was one of the best interviews I've seen you do.

Informative and amusing. The interviewer obviously knew his subject  and he listened to your answers and allowed you to answer, and unlike some interviewers he was interested.  It was like watching two old friends reminiscing about things they both loved.  I certainly hope he does a follow-up interview.

Do you know if the series (I'm presuming it's a series) will be on UK television?

love,
Bea.

---

Brian replied:

Thanks Bea. Yes, I'm glad it has come across so well. Rick is a fabulous musician, a friend, and has become an interviewer who goes way deeper than anyone I have ever come across ... it's the antithesis of the standard shallow TV interview which has become the norm.

I don't know how the outlets for TV are coming on. The series definitely deserves airing on National TV.

Cheers

LAUNCH OF KEPLER

Jill Walter wrote:

Bri - I don't know if you watched the launch of Kelper Friday night or not....it was a beautiful night launch...some stations carried it live in the US....I have a friend who works in radio astronomy and am not sure if he is part of this or not....much of what he does he can't talk about....I don't know if this is something that interests you or not but Kepler is supposed to look for planets similar to ours...this is a quote I read about the mission tonight (7 March).

"By recording the tiniest shifts in the brightness of those stars, scientists are hoping to detect planets that are like Earth"

I find it fascinating and thought I'd pass it along to you. here's an artist's interpretation from NASA: Kepler interpretation

A QUEEN MENTION ON "FAMILY GUY"

Chrystel Bandreigh wrote

Hi

[Friend] Trish sent me this - thought you might giggle.....

"Family Guy" McStroke (2008)

Lois Griffin: [on Peter's new mustache] I think it's handsome.
Brian Griffin: I think it's gay.
Peter Griffin: Oh yeah? Well, if I'm gay then Freddie Mercury was gay.
Brian Griffin: Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen? He was incredibly gay!
Peter Griffin: He was not. He had a mustache. That's practically like having a wedding band.

Brian replied:

Ha ! Very funny !
