EARTHSET Stereo !!!

|

EARTHSET Stereo !!! Have to admit this was an opportunity I was waiting for ! AS NEVER BEFORE !!! We had to wait half a century ! This, of course, echoes the view the Apollo 8 astronauts famously brought back to us in 1968, taken by Bill Anders. I was hoping for the chance to make the stereo, and here, thanks to the Artemis gallery, it is ! Two big differences between then and now.

Firstly in 1968 it was ALL analogue, whereas this is a digital file transmitted straight back to Earth way ahead of the return of the Orion capsule. Secondly – correct me if I’m wrong – this qualifies as the setting of the Earth as seen by the astronauts, rather than the rising – which must have been a truly breathtaking moment for Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and Bill Anders.

If you want to see more astrostereoscopy from those days, please check out our LondonStereo.com website, where you can purchase our book “MISSION MOON 3-D” – with foreword by Jim Lovell ! I have been so lucky to meet many of the original Moonwalkers at our STARMUS events. Our greatest friend is Charlie Duke, from Apollo 16 who regularly speaks at STARMUS, 90 years old and still the youngest human ever to walk on the Moon !! And still sharp as a razor !!!
