Stereo Crescent Earth !!

|

OK – I’m gonna claim this to be the first real stereo image of a crescent planet Earth – though I’m pretty sure I won’t be the only astrostereoscopist to make this 3-D image ! #artemis The two elements are the two captures of Earth made by the NASA Artemis II Crew , looking back from the Orion capsule on its way to swing around the Moon – on the NASA Artemis II mission. There are two captures of the fully illuminated earthly view of Earth, too, in the NASA gallery, but they were taken so close together in time they don’t give a workable stereo image (we tried !) But these two – taken at different times (and distances) definitely give us stereo detail – roundness of the image of our planet. It’s not perfect. The Earth has inconveniently rotated between exposures – so the terminator )the line between dark and light) is different in each side. This messes up the stereo effect. But I think this qualifies as a bona fide first stereo – and actually I think I can fix that terminator ! I’ll get back to you ! Meanwhile … enjoy !!

And big thanks to @stereojazz.3d who was on this before I was, and gave me a nudge !
