On This Day in Queen History – 23 February

In 1968 – The opposition played the Roundhills Community Centre, Thurmaston, Leics.
In 1975 – Queen played the Erlanger Theatre, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA (2 shows). Freddie had to visit a throat specialist at Philadelphia University Hospital as he could hardly speak.
In 1976 – Queen played the Auditorium Theater, Chicago, Illinois, USA.
In 1977 – Queen played Kiel Auditorium, St Louis, Missouri, USA.
In 1979 – Queen played the Pabellon Del Real Madrid, Madrid, Spain.
In 1980 – Queen scored their first No 1 in the USA with ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’, written by Freddie Mercury for “The Game” album. Mercury revealed later the song took him 10 minutes to write he got the idea while taking a bath.

In 1987 – Freddie Mercury released his 7th solo single ”The Great Pretender”, on Parlophone, EMI and Capitol records worldwide – a cover version of The Platters’ 1956 original. Successful, reaching No4 in charts. 
In 1987 – Freddie visited Barcelona to meet Montserrat Caballe at the Ritz Hotel.
In 1988 – The Cross played the Polytechnic, Sheffield, UK.
In 1993 – Brian May played Frank Erwin Centre, Austin, Texas, USA, supporting Guns N’ Roses.
In 2011 – Brian May and Roger Taylor attend WWRY the Musical, the Forum, Copenhagen, Denmark. Roger performs for the encore, but not Brian as he had a hand injury.
In 2011 – Sucker Punch movie soundtrack, including ‘I Want It All’/’We Will Rock You’ Mash-Up — Queen w/ Armageddon Aka Geddy reviewed in Spinner.
In 2012 – “Brian May Still Reigns as King of Tone” interview published in Guitar Player March issue, on sale.

In 2013 – In an interview with Lisa Davidson for “Backstage Pass”, Kerry Ellis announced she is was working with Brian May on live album of the “The Born Free Tour” as well as on a new studio album.
In 2013 – “The Guardian” published “David Bowie And Me” with celebrity interviews including. Roger Taylor talking about working with Bowie in Montreux during the recording of ‘Under Pressure’.
In 2014 – Brian May and Kerry Ellis played the Theatre Royal, Bath, UK.
