The White Label Auction in Aid of The BRIT Trust – the world’s only known auction of “white label” test pressings, returns for its sixth edition on Tuesday 7th October 2025.
The auction of rare and collectable test pressings1 has to date has generated well over £160,000 for music industry charity, The BRIT Trust, which works to improve lives through the power of music, and supports hundreds of causes across the UK that promote education and wellbeing, including The BRIT School, Nordoff and Robbins, ELAM, Music Support, and Key4Life.
Full details of the auction items will be announced in due course, but organisers can reveal that one of the star lots will be a rare white label 7” test pressing of Queen’s iconic single Bohemian Rhapsody. The ground-breaking song, which, across two spells in 1975 and then 1991, spent a total of 14 weeks at No.1 in the Official Singles Charts, has I’m In Love with My Car on its B-side. It featured on the band’s acclaimed fourth studio album, A Night At The Opera, and was recorded at Rockfield Studios during August–September 1975 and then released on EMI Records on 31st October that year – so the auction coincides with its 50th anniversary.
Produced by Queen and Roy Thomas Baker, who sadly passed away in April, the item has been kindly donated by David Munns OBE, who in 1975 was in charge of marketing at EMI and was involved with the Queen campaign.
The While Label Auction is being organised by its founder, Johnny Chandler, supported by Gennaro Castaldo of record labels association the BPI, and Julian Stockton of JMSPR. It will again be hosted by Newton-Le-Willows-based music memorabilia and vinyl records specialists Omega Auctions.
The event is made possible by the generosity of the many artists and record labels who every year donate the lot items, including Universal Music UK, who lead in contributing to it, Sony Music UK, and other labels/companies including AWAL, BMG, Cherry Red Records, and Warner Music UK, amongst others.
White Label Auction founder and organiser, Johnny Chandler, said: “With just a handful produced ahead of a release so artists, managers and labels can check the audio is just as it should be, these white label test pressings can be highly collectible, and, as the past five editions of the auction have shown, there is demand for them from collectors around the world. As ever, I’m excited for this next auction, not least as we have an incredibly rare gem in the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ 7” single to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its release. Once again huge thanks in advance to everyone who makes the White Label Auction possible, as we continue to support the important work of The BRIT Trust.”
Dan Muscatelli-Hampson, Omega Auctions Auction Manager, added: “The love of vinyl extends from casual fans to the most ardent collectors, and we are now also seeing a new generation of admirers coming through, helping the market for collectible recordings and music memorabilia to stay buoyant. This auction is the only one of its kind in the world, which Omega Auctions is proud to host. It has clearly struck a chord with artists and fans alike, and we invite collectors from around the world to again join us to bid for these rare items.”
