Anthem of the Seas
Anthem of the Seas

Guests Will Jam to the Legendary British Rock Group’s Timeless Ballads

MIAMI, Aug. 11, 2014 – Royal Caribbean International is once again shaking things up on the high seas. The first cruise line to feature fully licensed, Tony Award-winning Broadway productions today announced that guests onboard the highly-anticipated Anthem of the Seas will party to We Will Rock You – the smash hit musical featuring the greatest hits of legendary British rock group, Queen – when she sails from Southampton, England in April 2015. Written by British comedian Ben Elton, the hilarious award-winning, record-breaking phenomenon boasts a score of killer Queen tunes such as “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “We Are the Champions,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and of course, “We Will Rock You.”

“On our new Quantum-class, guests can expect an entertainment experience that transcends anything they’ve ever seen before, and We Will Rock You is no exception,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, Executive Vice President, Operations, Royal Caribbean International. “We’re thrilled to bring the timeless rock ballads of Queen to our most appropriately named ship.”

Built around 24 of Queen’s greatest hits, We Will Rock You tells the story of a group of Bohemians who struggle to restore the free exchange of thought, fashion and live music in a distant future where everyone dresses, thinks and does the same. Musical instruments and composers are forbidden, and rock music is all but unknown. We Will Rock You has proven itself as one of the London West End’s most solid hits since opening in May 2002, going on to become a worldwide sensation. The show has now been seen in local productions in 17 countries, playing to an audience of more than 15 million people.

Additionally, guests sailing on the cruise line’s Adventure of the Seas will be able to experience a limited time engagement of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Tell Me on a Sunday, running through November 2, 2014.

With music and orchestration by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Don Black, Tell Me on a Sunday is a 55 minute, one-woman musical that charts the course of an English girl newly arrived to New York. Brimming with optimism, she sets out to find success, companionship and love. But as she weaves her way through the maze of the city and her own anxieties, frustrations and heartaches, she begins to wonder whether – in fact – she’s been looking for love in all the wrong places.

As part of Royal Caribbean’s Broadway at Sea offerings, guests of the cruise line can take in performances featuring the storytelling of ABBA’s timeless songs in MAMMA MIA! on Quantum of the Seas, the 60’s-inspired bebop of Hairspray and one of the world’s most beloved musicals CATS on Oasis of the Seas, the jazz-infused score of Chicago: The Musical on Allure of the Seas, the toe-tapping disco beats of Saturday Night Fever on Liberty of the Seas, and now, We Will Rock You on the new Anthem of the Seas and Tell Me on a Sunday on Adventure of the Seas.

The groundbreaking Quantum-class ships, Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas, will debut a new set of first-at-sea onboard experiences, such as Ripcord by iFLY, a heart-pounding skydiving experience; North Star, a thrilling adventure that transports guests more than 300 feet in the air on a breathtaking journey; cutting-edge transformative venues including SeaPlex, the largest indoor sports and entertainment complex at sea with bumper cars, roller skating, a circus school and more; and the cruise line’s largest and most advanced staterooms ever. Guests also will enjoy the new Quantum-class “Dynamic Dining,” a completely new culinary experience that offers a landscape of 18 restaurant concepts as vast and varied as dining in the world’s most cosmopolitan cities, including specialty restaurants created with partner-chefs Jamie Oliver, Devin Alexander and Michael Schwartz.

Quantum of the Seas will debut in November 2014, followed by her sister ship, Anthem of the Seas in April 2015. Each ship spans 18 decks, encompasses 167,800 gross registered tons, carries 4,180 guests at double occupancy and features 2,090 staterooms. More information on Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas is available at RoyalCaribbean.com/QuantumoftheSeas. Media can find more details, images and videos at http://tinyurl.com/n6fmy5k.

Queen exhibition, Discodays, Naples 6 April 2014.

It’s always hard to explain in words the feelings coming from a full day dedicated to our passions. I’m not the one who can tell but the Queen event just passed was a great experience to remember.

A collector beyond being fan gets a particular pleasure in sharing his beloved treasures. Through records, posters and memorabilia a door is open to the history of one of the greatest rock bands in the world. You give new life to all these items and get transported in the past, just for few instants…. Hope to have shared just a little atom of all my passion and devotion for the last 30 years.

A special moment of the day which I'll never forget. A new 4th generation, little fan, Davide, 8 yrs old with his shining eyes in front of all those items.. a genuine and pure passion that often we adults lose growing up. He lovely explained me the meaning of the Queen Crest, and ran crazily from one stand to another with unique astonishment which belongs only to kids. Just a little embarrassed when he saw the original promo photo of the naked girl on bike from the bicycle race single cover and he said : “Uh! mine has the red panties”.

Thanks to all fans who came in. Queen are so loved in the world. A great day!!

As to Queen’s first Korean show, Roger Taylor said, “I first visited Seoul on a promotional trip in the early 80’s and was so impressed by the architecture and culture. It will therefore be very exciting to finally play a concert and bring the music of Queen to this great city with Adam Lambert”.

Queen, formed in 1971, released numerous hit songs throughout the years until the death of the band’s main vocalist, Freddie Mercury, in 1991. The band has a special place in rock history and is regarded as one of the world’s most beloved rock bands of all time.

Queen has amassed an astounding list of awards, hall of fame inductions, and record sales. Their sales have been estimated to have reached the hundreds of millions of units, and their songs such as: “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We Will Rock You”, “We Are the Champions”, “Somebody to Love”, and “Don't Stop Me Now” have been, and still are, loved all over the world. “Bohemian Rhapsody” was voted ‘the UK’s favourite hit of all time’ in a poll conducted by the Guinness World Records British Hit Singles Book. On top of that, the songs “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions” have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Queen is the first band in history, in which all members (Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon) have been inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame, and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Lead vocalist for their performance at SUPER SONIC 2014 will be Adam Lambert. This move has received lots of praise and created much excitement throughout the music world. "I'm honored to be able to pay my respects to Freddie Mercury's memory," Lambert said. "He's a personal hero of mine. I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for Korean fans of this legendary band."

Adam Lambert burst onto the pop music scene by taking second place in the 8th season of American Idol. He quickly became a pop star worldwide. His debut album was nominated for the Best Male Vocal Performance Grammy, and his second album debuted at No.1 on the Billboard charts. He made his debut performance in Korea in February 2013.

SUPER SONIC is held in Olympic Park, Seoul which is easily accessible by public transportation, and has become the representative brand of summer festivals in Korea since 2012.

SUPER SONIC has close partnership with SUMMER SONIC in Japan, and as a result, is able to invite world-class acts by sharing their line-up.

New Order and the Smashing Pumpkins headlined SUPER SONIC’s first year. Last year, Pet Shop Boys and Cho Yong Pil (a legendary Korean artist) headlined the festival with great performances. This year, Queen + Adam Lambert will continue this tradition of great headliners.

SUPER SONIC 2014 will be held in Olympic Park in the heart of Seoul for two days on August 14 and 15.
