Queen + Adam Lambert Zurich

Today, the Swiss newspaper "Blick" has published a report about the Queen & Adam Lambert performance from yesterday.

CASTING STAR MAKES FREDDIE

Yesterday, Queen thrilled the sold out Hallenstadium Zurich. They have had a difficult position: Guest frontman, Adam Lambert had to convince the fans, that he's worthy as Queen singer.

Nearly 29 years after the last concert at the Hallenstadium Zurich in their original setting, Brian May (67) and Roger Taylor (65) from QUEEN came back to Zurich for a concert. In the team: the new guest singer Adam Lambert (33). That just a participant of the American version of "Germany Seeks the Superstar", "American Idol" should be a replacement for the legendary Freddie Mercury (+45) made many people perplex. But after the concert was clear: Adam Lambert is the perfect choice!

Adam Lambert has convinced true fans too

The runner-up of the casting show especially impressed with his unique voice and his extroverted, theatrically manner. Both have found each other obviously, because the harmony between Queen and Adam Lambert couldn't be better. And he knew how to deal with the audience too: "Zurich! You are an attractive audience!" The womens too!" joked the homosexual singer during the concert. Before, from 2005 - 2008, Queen was on the road with Paul Rodgers (65) as their frontman.

However Freddie Mercury remains unforgotten

Again and again, with recordings and song dedications was thought to the deceased frontman of Queen, Freddie Mercury. He was involved in appearances by video recordings - as example in Bohemian Rhapsody too. The Zurich audience paid tribute to Mercury with much applause and jubilation. Brian May was visibly moved.

Standing Ovations for the Rock legends

The entire concert, which lasted two and a half hours, Brian May, Roger Taylor and Adam Lampert have played their greatest hits, from "One Vision" to "We Will Rock You". At the end there was only one thought: Queen is music history! So it was no miracle, that the band was honored with standing Oovations in the Hallenstadium at the end of the concert.

PRESS RELEASE: QUEEN FOREVER SET FOR VINYL RELEASE WITH LIMITED
EDITION 4 LP BOX SET
Direct link

Includes additional bonus 12” single of William Orbit mix of “Let Me In Your Heart Again”

Forever vinyl pack shot

Having in the two months since its original release already provided Queen with their twenty fifth top ten album and twenty-sixth UK gold album, Queen’s current best selling compilation package Queen Forever is to receive a special limited edition vinyl release coming this spring.

The original 36 track 2 CD Queen Forever release will now be made available as a strictly limited 4 LP vinyl box set which includes an additional 12” single bonus disc exclusive to the set featuring a special William Orbit mix of the only recently heard Freddie Mercury track “Let Me In Your Heart Again”.

The Orbit mix was held back from the Forever CD release and only surfaced for a limited period to support the Coca-Cola (RED) AIDS awareness campaign mounted at the tail end of last year.

The B side of the 12” single has a further bonus feature exclusive to this box set – a laser etching of the box set cover illustration.

The 4 LP vinyl box set is available in a limited edition on April 13 (excluding US & Canada, which will follow later) and comes in the lead up to Record Store Day on April 18th when eyes are very much on special vinyl releases.

It arrives at a time when the public are once more showing an increasing appetite for vinyl. Last year in the UK records were broken as vinyl sales reached over 1 million units, the highest figure since 1996. The 2014 figure is another big leap on previous year, when 780,000 vinyl records were sold. (Source: Official Charts Company).

Distinguishing itself as the first Queen album to feature new Freddie Mercury led tracks since the band’s 1995 Made In Heaven album, Queen Forever brings out into the light the long anticipated track from Queen and Michael Jackson, ‘There Must Be More to Life Than This’, an unfinished Mercury-Queen track 'Let Me In Your Heart Again' originating from the band’s The Works album recording sessions (featured on this vinyl package in a newly available William Orbit mix) and a new ballad version of Mercury’s first solo hit, his Giorgio Moroder collaboration, ‘Love Kills’, which is currently being heavily played at UK and European radio.

The rest of the package mixes Queen hits, classic tracks, and new takes on well-known songs and celebrates the extraordinary musical path of one of the world’s greatest rock bands. Reaching back as far as 1974 with fan favourite Nevermore, a Freddie Mercury song originally included on Queen II, Queen Forever progresses to feature songs that spotlight the band’s songwriting prowess, studio experimentation and remarkable development, and is completed with latter-day Queen hits, including ’91’s no. 1 These Are The Days Of Our Lives and ‘95’s Too Much Love Will Kill You, together with the poignant A Winter’s Tale, recorded during Freddie Mercury’s final Queen recording sessions in Montreux in 1991.

Queen Forever is a thrilling showcase for exclusive new Queen recordings but equally as much a paean to the extraordinary musical achievements of John Deacon, Brian May, Roger Taylor and the late Freddie Mercury, whose singular talent we again get to marvel at through this meticulously presented 36 track collection.

SKANSKAN:
16 February 2015

Translation of the Queen + Adam Lambert review in the Swedish newspaper Skånskan
Queen + Adam Lambert
Jyske Bankboxen, Herning February 15.

Review in the Swedish newspaper Skånskan, February 16. Review by Peter Eliasson.

"GRANDOISE, LUXURIOUS, AND VARIOUSLY PROFESSIONAL"

REVIEW. Let's get it out of the way from the get go to not upset all the doubting hardcore fans; no, you cannot replace Freddie Mercury as the singer of Queen, of course not.

It was not possible previously when Bad Company's Paul Rodgers did his five year long stint during the past decennium, and it's not possible now either with the American Idol runner up Adam Lambert as their front man. A big plus sign between Queen and his name on posters and t-shirts emphasise that point. So if it ever happens that someone else becomes a proper replacement as the front man, it'll be when hell freezes over, to spoof The Eagles' Don Henley's rigid opinion on a possible reunion of that band when it was spoken of.

However, that does not mean that the remaining members can't honour their previous front man and at the same time make a whole lot of people happy. Especially if it's done with such colourful dignity, inspiration and style as it was done on Sunday. Because one can only conclude that this is a combination that works. You could have done without some of the shorter solo numbers but apart from that, this was an as luxuriously grandiose as variously professional event which showcased the band's work in all its multifaceted adornment. It might sound predictable to describe it all as an unstoppable procession of triumph, but it's difficult to avoid. With a hit-filled song catalog like the one Queen possesses, a lot would be needed to not make it a success when the already existing structure is so good.

But it's worth to stress that the exuberantly energetic Lambert is the vitamin kick the original duo Brian May and Roger Taylor need to be motivated to keep their legacy alive, now that they've reached their retirement ages, and the 33 year old did indeed take the command from the first note in the opening numbers One Vision and Stone Cold Crazy, two of the band's most obvious hard rock songs. The gravitas and showmanship was as convincing as the pitch perfect voice. But there would be more memorable moments. The always sorrowful Who Wants to Live Forever was filled to the brim with grand emotions and class that almost equaled the original.

In similar fashion, I imagine that Mercury was smiling in heaven when the leather clad Lambert performed a sparkly, theatrical, tongue-in-cheek version of Killer Queen whilst posing on a divan at the edge of the stage. And speaking of Freddie, it might just have been May's interpretation of Love of My Life that was the night's most touching moment. A montage of the singer flashed by on the video screen as the guitarist sang, and it was also then that you understood and realised just how much he still misses his friend. Therefore, it was a given that Bohemian Rhapsody was performed with both Lambert and Mercury on vocals. In that way, the deceased rock legend was almost present for real. Which I think he would have appreciated. Because this show was the kind of pompously rich, glamorous, and tastefully over the top that you expect in a Queen context.
