Normie Rowe AM was the first and biggest male solo star of Australian pop in the 1960s. A strong singer and a natural performer, his bright, edgy tenor voice was showcased in well-chosen material, much of which was produced by the legendary Pat Aulton, house producer for the Sunshine, Spin and Festival labels. Supported by the assured performances of his backing band The Playboys, Normie cut a string of classic beat singles on the Sunshine label that kept him at the top of charts for two years and made him the most popular Australian solo singer of the "beat" era. Normie's double-sided hit "Que Sera Ser" / "Shakin' All Over" is cited as the top-selling Australian single of the 1960s and is still one of the biggest-selling Australia recordings of all time.

It seems all too easy to regard the average Australian Idol performer as a ‘flash in the pan’ overnight sensation, but the truth behind Courtney Murphy’s success is far more involved. Having a musical career that spans longer than many of his peers, Courtney still performs regularly solo and with the band he formed with his brothers in the early 1990’s, Murphy’s Lore.  As one of the final three on ‘Australian Idol’ in 2004, still the highest rating season of the popular Network Ten program, Courtney quickly became one of the most recognisable new artists in Australia. His extraordinary voice and dynamic performances garnered him praise from the viewing public, who embraced his soulful interpretations of popular hits and hidden gems, as well as his happy-go-lucky persona and quirky sense of humour.

No stranger to the stage Dean is a well-known music theatre performer and singer around Perth, performing most recently in Oklahoma at The Regal Theatre in 2015 and the ICW Production of Oliver in the role of Mr Bumble in 2016.
His drag alter ego, DJ Feminem has made her name known Australia wide as a superstar DJ playing coast to coast at the biggest and best clubs; Arq Sydney, Poof Doof (Melbourne), & Connections Nightclub (Perth) to name just a few.
With a career spanning well over a decade DJ Feminem has gathered an impressive list of awards along the way. Pride Entertainer of the Year 2009, Perth’s Favourite DJ - 3 years running and Perth’s Favourite Drag Queen, as well as a nomination for Sydney's Favourite DJ at the DIVA's. Feminem recently made global headlines during a duet with superstar Adele on the Perth leg of her world tour. Adele spotted Feminem in the crowd, bringing her on stage in front of a crowd of 65,000 at Doman Stadium in March 2017

Blake Williams is a Perth musician, radio presenter, actor and voice-over artist.  As a W.A.A.P.A. Graduate from both the Contemporary Music and Broadcasting streams, Blake has worked within the Western Australian entertainment industry for the past 7 years.  He appears weekly on Perth #1 radio station, mix94.5, hosting his own show, “The Scene”, for the past 5 years and is a regular contributor on ABC720.  Blake is also the front man of WA’s most in demand corporate band, “PROOF”, an outfit that has performed over 1000 shows in Australia and overseas, supporting some of the biggest names in showbiz, including Chris Isaak, Jon Stevens, Guy Sebastian, Dami Im, Hunters and Collectors, DJ Havana Brown and Ruby Rose.

Old Grey Whistle Test

Check out programme this coming Friday 23 February at 9pm on BBC FOUR (3hrs)

Hosted by Bob Harris, this live studio show features music, special guests and rare archive footage to mark the 30 years since the legendary series was last broadcast.

Don't be surprised to see contributions from Brian May and Roger Taylor - who have both contributed interviews.

SEE: http://www.bbc.co.uk

Old Grey Whistle Test Live: For One Night Only, hosted by Bob Harris, is a live three-hour show with music, special guests and rare archive to mark 30 years since the legendary series was last broadcast. There will be music from Peter Frampton, Richard Thompson and Albert Lee - who all performed on the show. Bob will be speaking to them and other guests, including Dave Stewart, Joan Armatrading, Ian Anderson, Kiki Dee, Chris Difford and Danny Baker, plus singer Mollie Marriott, Pink Floyd animator Ian Emes and Mike Appleton who produced the original series.

Broadcasting live, Old Grey Whistle Test Live: For One Night Only (9pm-midnight, Friday 23 February) is a celebration of the iconic music television show that aired on the BBC from 1971 to 1988. Presented by Bob Harris, who fronted the series from 1972-1978, and produced by BBC Studios, the show returns to its original home of Television Centre in White City in a recreation of the programme’s early incarnation for a glorious evening of live music performances from some of the show’s favourite musicians.

Bob will be talking to a host of studio guests, from back room staff to musicians who performed on the show and fans who grew up with it. Other former presenters - including Annie Nightingale, Richard Williams, David Hepworth and Andy Kershaw - will also feature, sharing stories of their time on the series. There will be incredible archive footage of some of the best-loved and rarest performances from its extraordinary back catalogue, and during the live programme there will be an online viewer vote for the performance the BBC Four audience would most like to see again.

Bob Harris says: “Old Grey Whistle Test was such a magical time. It produced so many firsts for music television, whilst forging friendships for me that have lasted ever since. I can’t wait to get back in the studio and relive those wonderful memories and introduce some great new performances.”

Old Grey Whistle Test saw the first UK performances from Bob Marley and the Wailers, Dire Straits, New York Dolls, Tom Petty and XTC, as well as classic performances from Blondie, David Bowie, Deep Purple, John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, Patti Smith, QUEEN, R.E.M., The Smiths and Talking Heads.

Caroline Wright, Editor, Entertainment Projects, BBC Studios says: “Old Grey Whistle Test was one of those unique shows that always felt like it was owned by its audience, consistently attracting the biggest and most enduring bands throughout its entire run and often introducing acts to British audiences for the first time. Drawing on the show’s unbelievable back catalogue of wonderful performances and guests, Old Grey Whistle Test Live: For One Night Only will celebrate this legendary series.”

In 2011, BBC Radio 2 celebrated four decades since the series was first broadcast with a 16 part series, Old Grey Whistle Test 40. It is now being broadcast again on Wednesdays (17 January - 2 May, 11pm-midnight). Presented by Bob Harris, each programme looks at one complete series of the original show, with archive recordings alongside both new interviews and exclusively recorded sessions with guests from the featured series. Contributors include Elton John, Stevie Nicks, Alice Cooper, Debbie Harry, Brian May, Joan Armatrading, Chris Rea, Jim Kerr and Paul Weller. Produced by The Whispering Bob Broadcasting Company.

Old Grey Whistle Test: For One Night Only is a BBC Studios production. The programme is executive produced by Caroline Wright. It was commissioned for BBC Four by Jan Younghusband, Head of Commissioning, Music Television, for Channel Editor Cassian Harrison.

Concert Review with PHOTOS: Queen & Adam Lambert
18 February by Carl Doy

[Of Adam]...  Is there nothing the boy can’t sing?

Roger Taylor, one of the great rock drummers, was rock-solid throughout and also gracious enough to have a drum battle with their percussionist, Tyler Warren and bow to his technique.

Star of the show? Has to be Brian May, who has contributed so much to the sound of the band over the years and last night, changing guitars almost as many times as Adam changed suits, he gave us a masterclass in technique, style and sheer stamina. Not content with that, he duetted with Freddie on Love of my Life and included us all in when he took the biggest selfie in the world.

Queen 180g vinyls - Italy

On 24th February 2018, global partwork publisher DeAgostini is launching, in association with Queen Productions Ltd. and Universal Music Group, Queen The Vinyl Collection. Featuring 25 albums, it will be available to purchase online (for Italy only) and in newsagents all across Italy.

Issue by issue, Queen The Vinyl Collection, made up of single, double and triple albums, builds into a career-spanning library of Queen’s historic album discography. With artwork overseen and designed by Queen’s art director Richard Gray, each album is presented in high quality sleeves reprising and, in some cases, refreshing the original artwork. The specially pressed LPs appear on 180g black vinyl, with all titles half-speed mastered and cut at world renowned Abbey Road Studios in London to achieve audiophile quality sound.

Queen The Vinyl Collection spans the band’s career from its first album, ‘Queen’, in 1973, through to ‘Made In Heaven’, released in 1995, which comprises Freddie’s final studio recordings and additional material from the band’s earlier studio sessions. In addition to Queen’s 15 studio albums, Queen The Vinyl Collection features all three classic Greatest Hits titles (including the currently unavailable ‘Greatest Hits III’), and ‘On Air’, a collection of the band’s BBC Radio recordings. The collection is completed with six live concert albums, among them the long out-of-print 'Live Killers' and a brand new presentation of 'Live At Wembley Stadium', on triple LP for the first time.

Each album is accompanied by an illustrated 8 page magazine containing the stories behind the group’s renowned recordings. With notes by Queen archivist and writer Greg Brooks (in consultation with Queen publicist Phil Symes and long time expert fan Jim Jenkins), each issue reveals fascinating details about the creation of the album, including the poignant recording sessions for the last two albums with Freddie, and the key tracks therein, and features quotes and insights from all four members of the band, as well as rare photos, record sleeves and poster art.

Queen The Vinyl Collection is a 25 part series available in Italy. Issue one will be priced at €9.99 for a limited time only, with subsequent single album copies retailing at €17.99; double albums at €24.99; and triple albums at €29.99. Issues are available bi-monthly in newsagents across Italy, with subscribers receiving two issues in one delivery every four weeks. Subscriptions can be purchased online at deagostini.it/queenvinile.
