Roger Taylor will be re-releasing his acclaimed album ‘Fun On Earth’ on limited edition double vinyl to coincide with Record Store Day 19th April. In Roger’s own words: -

"The resurgence of vinyl is so fantastically exciting because it's how we all fell in love with music, it really does sound better. Analogue forever!"

Originally released in November 2013 on Virgin/ EMI, ‘Fun on Earth’ is one of Taylor’s most exciting and accomplished pieces of work to date. Recorded at Priory Studios, Surrey, the 13 track album is a triumphant display of superior musicianship showcasing Taylor at his vocal best. ‘Say It’s Not True’ sees Taylor team up with Jeff Beck for the contemporary Queen favourite while the smooth refrains and heartfelt lyrics of ‘Sunny Day’ and ‘Be With You‘ come together with the powerful, reckless spirit of opening track ‘One Night Stand‘ and ‘I Am The Drummer (In A Rock n’ Roll Band)’ on what is an exhilarating, tour de force of rock music.

With a juggernaut career spanning six decades, Taylor was the beating heart of Queen penning landmark hits ‘Radio Ga Ga’, ‘A Kind of Magic’ and ‘Days of Our Lives’ while enjoying success across the globe with accomplished solo material which reached the heights of the UK charts. With ‘Fun On Earth,’ Roger Taylor has managed to produce an album of intelligence, outstanding melody, sentiment and maturity without becoming ‘Middle Of The Road’ or dull, and that is one of his greatest achievements.

The tracklisting for the vinyl rerelease of ‘Fun On Earth’ has been reordered by Roger himself to give vinyl listeners a more cohesive listening experience. Two extra songs (‘Whole House Rockin’ and ‘Dear Mr Murdoch’)- originally added to the version of Fun On Earth that came as part of Roger’s career retrospective ‘The Lot’ box set- will be included on this limited edition vinyl release.

Tickets are available at ticketweb.co.uk or 0844 477 2000 (24hr) priced at £20.00 (adv) and on general sale Friday 21st March 2014.

The Queen Extravaganza is a spectacular touring concert show designed to take the glorious music and live experience of legendary rock band Queen and bring it to generations of fans. Two of Queen’s original band mates and songwriters— iconic drummer Roger Taylor and legendary guitarist Brian May - are the masterminds behind The Queen Extravaganza.

“The Queen Extravaganza is a new show specially designed to enable new fans, together with fans of old, to celebrate the music of Queen in a heart-stopping event, says Taylor. “It’s very spectacular, it’s very visual, there are going to be some shocks and some tremendous surprises. It will be a rock celebration in the Royal tradition.”

Taylor hand-picked the band members from thousands of entries through a unique online talent search with video submissions generating more than 10 million views from around the globe. The late Mark Fisher created the staging and production elements, which are enhanced by rare video footage from Queen’s extensive archives and newly-created imagery.

The Queen Extravaganza band first performed on American Idol in 2012. The band is: vocalist Marc Martel; guitarist Nick Radcliffe; drummer Tyler Warren; bassist Francois-Olivier Doyon; and keyboardist and musical director Brandon Ethridge.

The 90-minute show features more than 20 Queen classics drawn from the band’s biggest hits: “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “Under Pressure,” “We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions,” “A Kind of Magic,” “Radio Ga Ga,” “Somebody to Love,” and “Killer Queen” as well as other fan favorites. The production will be enhanced visually with rare video footage from Queen’s extensive archives and also newly-created imagery.

In honour of one of London's longest running shows, we take a look at some things that you may not believe have happened since the Queen musical opened 12 years ago

On 31 May, "Another One Bites the Dust" as the "Fat Bottomed Girls" of We Will Rock You "Play the Game" one last time. But "Who Wants to Live Forever" anyway?

With Queen puns running out, we take a look at 12 things that have happened since the show premiered in 2002. - www.whatsonstage.com

1. Facebook
thefacebook.com was launched in early 2004, almost 2 years after We Will Rock You opened its doors. But it wasn't until September 2006 that it dropped the 'the' and opened to everyone over the age of 13. Meaning this titan of a show had already been rocking for four and a half years before Facebook came into our lives!

2. Girls Aloud
Since forming in November 2002 (four months after WWRY started), Cheryl, Nadine, Sarah, Nicola and Kimberley have had a string of twenty consecutive top ten singles, including four number ones. Cheryl Cole's spell as a judge on The X Factor has recently been parodied in new musical I Can't Sing.

3. The Gherkin
30 St Mary Axe (widely known informally as "the Gherkin" ) was completed in December 2003 and opened in April 2004.

4. Prime Ministers, Presidents and Popes
Since the giant Freddie statue started ushering people through the doors of the Dominion there has been three Prime Ministers in Downing Street, three Popes in the Vatican and the first black President of the United States of America.

5. Eight iPhone models
Apple's first generation iPhone was released on 29 June 2007, a whole five years after Scaramouche started doing her fandango on Tottenham Court Road.

6. Wicked
Elphaba and Glinda took to the Broadway stage in October 2003 but it wasn't until 2006 that they joined the London gang.

7. 16 births, 28 marriages and 65 deaths in Hollyoaks
Never a dull moment in this Chester village...

8. Harry Potter: Three books and seven films
Since We Will Rock You premiered, half of the books and almost all of the films starring WhatsOnStage Award winner Daniel Radcliffe have been released.

9. £481,368,086 raised for Comic Relief
Before Lenny Henry started being awesome at Shakespeare and winning Critics Circle awards, he helped to launch the charity Comic Relief which, since the curtain first came up for We Will Rock You, has raised almost half a billion quid!

10. The Oyster Card
Can anyone remember how we actually got on the tube/bus without an Oyster Card? The card was first issued in July 2003 and today more than 90% of all journeys on public transport in London are made using the card.

11. Three new Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals
Since Galileo started rocking out the Dominion, Lloyd Webber has had not one but three new musicals come and go. The Woman in White (2004), Love Never Dies (2010) and Stephen Ward the Musical(2013). That's not even mentioning other shows he has been involved with, including Bombay Dreams(2002) and The Wizard of Oz (2011).

12. 125,000 plays of Bohemian Rhapsody
Between opening to the public on 14 May 2002 and closing on 31 May 2014, the show will have been performed 4600 times. At a running time of two hours and 40 minutes the production has clocked up 736,000 minutes of stage time, or roughly enough time to watch the above video 125,000 times.

'Freddie Mercury is one of the greatest singers that ever lived, and he’s a big idol for me' Adam Lambert

Adam Lambert

Adam Lambert's tenor voice has proven to be the perfect match for the classic songs of the rock band Queen so it's no surprise he would join forces with the surviving band members to do a tour this summer. But Lambert wasn't always so sure that he would be able to step in successfully for the band's late, great lead singer Freddie Mercury.

'At first it was a little daunting when we did our first incarnation of this,' he said of a handful of European shows he did with the band in the summer of 2009. 'I definitely felt apprehensive,' he said at a recent press conference. 'Freddie Mercury is one of the greatest singers that ever lived, and he’s a big idol for me, and I thought to myself, you know I hope that the fans dig this, you know, because there is a possibility that they wouldn’t. It felt really good. The reception was warm, the press reaction to it the first time was very warm.'

Original band members Roger Taylor and Brian May have full faith in Lambert. 'If you concentrate on the negative you’re not going to get anywhere,' said May. 'It’s very important to have your focus, and you play to people who want to hear us. Anyone that doesn’t want to hear us, thanks, goodbye. No problem.'

Added Lambert: 'But you’re missing out because it’s going to be one helluva show.'

Lambert's connection to Queen dates back to his American Idol days when he auditioned for the show with Bohemian Rhapsody. Then later he and fellow finalist Kris Allen performed We Are the Champions with the band members on the show back in 2009.

Adam Lambert and Brian May

10 March 2014 by Martin Kielty

US tour: Queen + Adam Lambert
Queen men Brian May and Roger Taylor admit they have almost no contact with retired bassist John Deacon, except over business dealings – and they believe he’s too “fragile” to take things any further.

He won’t be involved in their upcoming US tour with singer Adam Lambert – but his former bandmates insist the shows will be worth seeing.

Last week Queen + Adam Lambert confirmed 19 arena shows during June and July, following their first shows together in 2012 and another in 2013.

Guitarist May says the band are aware that many young fans will never have seen them with late frontman Freddie Mercury. He tells Rolling Stone: “We were very conscious of that in making this decision. This is the closest you’ll ever get to seeing Queen as it was in our golden days – but it’s not a reproduction. We’re here live and real, and we have a great singer. There’ll be a lot of newness about this. It’ll be loud and dangerous, and all the things that people used to look for in us.”

Lambert argues their performance will be a breath of fresh air for crowds used to pre-programmed pop performances: “Today, you go to a concert and you’re getting a lot of playbacks,” he says. “There’s click tracks. I’m not hating on it – but this is pure. We’re not playing to a click, we’re not playing to tracks. This is all live instruments. In today’s age it’s very exciting for a audience to something that has this much heart.”

But there’s to be no contribution from Deacon, who retired in 1997. Asked if they keep in contact with him, May admits: “We don’t, really. He doesn’t want to. He wants to be private and in his own universe.”

Taylor adds: “He’s completely retired from any kind of social contact. I think he’s a little fragile and he just didn’t want to know anything about talking to people in the music business, or whatever. That’s fair enough; we respect that.”

“He still keeps an eye on the finances, though,” says May. “We don’t undertake anything financial without talking to him.”

Queen are continuing work on an album set to feature recently-discovered Mercury recordings – but they haven’t ruled out tracking new music with Lambert. Taylor says: “It would be nice. We’ll see what happens on tour; I think we’re king to make sure we enjoy it first.”

The 19-date tour wraps Sunday, July 20 in Washington, DC at the Merriweather Post Pavilion, their only outdoor summer concert. The tour is presented by Live Nation.

BRIAN MAY: "We're very excited, I must say. It's been a while, but this is a combination, which we feel works really well, and Roger and myself are feeling, you know, it'll be great to do this one more time. This is what we do. It's very significant that we're here in Madison Square Garden; and actually that was my condition for touring. I said to Jim Beach, our manager, 'Get us Madison Square Garden, get us the Forum in LA and we can do this one more time.' And, y'know, this is the man to do it with. I'm thrilled to be here and let's do this."

ROGER TAYLOR: "We've worked with Adam a few times now," he said. "We had a wonderful tour, a short tour in Eastern Europe and in England, and that was probably the longest we've worked. Each time we've worked with Adam, it's just worked very well with our music. He's the most incredible frontman and we're delighted to announcing a tour of North America. It's just such a delight for us."

ADAM LAMBERT: "At first, it was a little daunting, when we started our first incarnation of this. I was definitely - I was apprehensive. He's a big idol for me, and I thought to myself, y'know, 'I hope that the fans dig this,'y'know, 'cause there was a possibility that they wouldn't. And it felt really good, the reception was warm, the press reaction to it the first time was very warm. And it's such a treat to get on stage and pay my respects and pay tribute to one of my favorite singers ever, and to sing some of the greatest music ever written."

Brian May & Roger Taylor Update on Upcoming Queen Release VH1 Radio Network 6 March 2014
- http://youtu.be/RifOMq1PvW0

Queen recently announced a tour with Adam Lambert on vocals, but for some time now, they’ve also been compiling some old music they found in the archives with the hopes to release it. We asked guitarist Brian May to tell us more about what they found.

BRIAN MAY: “We have a few songs that we discovered which were sort of stuck away in a drawer and I think we’d overlooked them. Yeah, we have two or three or four or five, I don’t know, but it’s not a whole album’s worth but definitely some significant material and Freddie sounds just so alive and fresh it’s like it was recorded yesterday and we’re playing together a lot of the time, you know. So you hear something which I think people will enjoy. And it’s been a voyage of discovery for us 'cause we thought after Made in Heaven there wasn’t any more Queen material. But, yeah, but there it is and I think you’ll get a kick out of it.”

Since they don’t have a full album yet, would they consider recording with Adam and adding that music to the record? Here’s what Brian and drummer Roger Taylor told us.

BRIAN: “Well you know, anything is possible."

ROGER TAYLOR: (laughs) "It’s logical. It’s a very logical thing to do so I don’t know."

BRIAN: "You never know. You never know.”

No word yet on when we’ll get to hear the new music, but you can check out Queen and Adam live when they kick off their tour in June. Get all their dates at BrianMay.com.

TIDBIT: Among the songs Brian has dug up are collaborations between Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson.
TALKING POINT: Are you excited to hear the music Brian discovered?

Queen give update on Freddie Mercury Biopic Q+AL Press Conference 6 Mach 2014
- http://youtu.be/EaU7_xXlgpI
Translation to Italian HERE

Last week, Queen announced a summer tour with Adam Lambert but that’s not all the band has going on. Guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor have been working on a biopic about singer Freddie Mercury and Brian gave us an update on how it’s coming along.

BRIAN MAY: “The movie is about to go. Yeah, we will be shooting in May. At this point, Roger and I kinda step backwards because we have a great team to put the film together under the leadership of Graham King, who is, you know, probably the greatest independent producer in films. We will sort of let them do it and shoot it and hopefully it will be an interesting thing.”

The movie has been in the works for years now and Brian spoke to us about what he’s learned about the moviemaking process.

“I’ve learned a lot about films in this process. What you discover is films don’t really tell history, films are an entertainment and so that’s an interesting journey to make. You realise that it cannot be absolutely true. What is the truth? The truth would be different for the people telling the story, but it will be a hell of an entertaining film I think.”

Roger added his two cents about filmmaking.

ROGER TAYLOR: “It seems like the wheels grind slowly in the movie word. I’m glad I’m a musician.”

No word yet on when the film will hit theatres but the tour with Lambert kicks off in June. Head to Brianmay.com for all the dates.

TIDBIT: Ben Winshaw, who plays “Q” in the Bond films, will star as the flamboyant singer. He replaces Sacha Baron Cohen, who was originally attached to play Freddie but left the project last summer.

TALKING POINT: Did you know so much effort goes into filmmaking?

Queen & Adam Lambert with Dave Basner VH1 Radio Network 6 March 2014
- http://youtu.be/h9Dz2MsOLaQ

Brian told about the decision behind bringing Adam on board. He also discussed the set list, as did Roger.

BRIAN MAY: One of the great things about Adam is that he's never an imitator. He finds his own way with the songs and that's what we all want. We want our music to be alive and dangerous and open to change. You know, Freddie, particularly, would hate to have things kind of reproduced the way they were. We take it to a different place. It's exciting and I don't think we'd be doing it if we didn't think we were actually going into new territory and every time we work with Adam, we do that. So I'm very happy.

We were saying earlier on, what needs to happen is we need to be happy amongst ourselves. We need to be comfortable. Adam needs to be comfortable. Challenged, but comfortable. (laughing) And yeah, I think we'll take a real careful look at all those albums and see what we can cherry-pick, and, you know, bring to a new place.

ROGER TAYLOR: We're very aware of what we think people want to hear, and I think after I've been to concerts where I haven't heard exactly what I wanna hear, so we're gonna try and deliver that as well. You know what people would want to hear from a Queen concert, obviously the big hits and try and make it an interesting journey through the hits.

BRIAN MAY: The big problem is we have too many hits !!

We Will Rock You

Having rocked over 6.5 million people in a record-breaking 12 years at the London's Dominion Theatre, the smash hit Queen & Ben Elton musical We Will Rock You is due finally to close on 31 May 2014. Now the longest running show ever at the Dominion by a margin of nine years, the show takes its rightful place in West End history, sitting proudly in the Top 10 longest running musicals of all time.

The show has now been performed in 28 countries around the globe, and has been seen by a more than 16 million people.

From its opening night at the Dominion on 14 May 2002, We Will Rock You quickly became the overwhelming people’s choice of musical in the UK and overseas. In its second year at the Dominion it won top honours in five categories in the Theatregoers Choice awards presented by whatsonstage.com, including Best New Musical. In 2011, nine years after the curtain first went up, the show won the prestigious Olivier Audience Award, the only category voted for entirely by the public. The show went on to win a number of international awards for productions around the globe.

When the show closes on 31 May 2014, it will have been performed at the Dominion an astonishing 4600 times. Co-creators Brian May, Roger Taylor and Ben Elton had this to say: "We want to thank every one of the many hundreds of incredible musical theatre artists, musicians and crew with whom we've had the privilege of working at the Dominion since 2002. And of course the incredible audiences who have rewarded them with over four and a half thousand standing ovations!”

General Manager of the Dominion Theatre, David Pearson, commented: “It has been a privilege to have hosted We Will Rock You for the past 12 years. To have the show rocking the Dominion and seeing a standing ovation night after night has been quite amazing. We wish the show every success for the future, as we now prepare to accelerate our restoration and refurbishment programme ready to welcome an exciting new production in 2015.”

London’s West End will suddenly be a lot quieter, come the 1st of June.

We Will Rock You is a Phil McIntyre Entertainments, Queen Theatrical Productions and Tribeca Theatrical presentation.
