**Mon 14 May 13** IN THE STUDIO With the release of November 1977′s News of the World , Queen had succeeded as four real “mates” on an international scale, which would continue only to increase for the next decade . With four writers, the band had a surplus of strong songs, while Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury possessed such an operatic voice that it’s easy to forget that both Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor also sang lead on select songs. What really impressed me then and now is how appreciative Brian May is of the fans, the countless deejays, and journalists for supporting Queen’s efforts over the years. Brian would later suffer a broken marriage, separation of his kids, and the passing of both parents, but nothing short of the untimely death of Freddie Mercury in 1991 could silence the original band. And even that wasn’t permanent. -Redbeard CHECK OUT PLAYER HERE |

ABSOLUTE RADIO Your top 100 Icons ICON - a person or thing regarded as a representative symbol or as worthy of veneration. In April, we [Absolute Radio] gave you the chance to vote for your icon - the person who adorned your bedroom wall, a band who you had played at your wedding or someone who you will have played at your funeral. So many of you registered your vote, and the top spot was pretty much a fight to the death. But, in the end, we finished with a full, fantastic list of artists and one top-dog. Voting has now closed, and the entries have been counted, checked & verified. We hope you're as excited as we are to find out where your favourite artist placed and to also find out the Absolute Radio Icon.

**Mon 06 May 13** Peter Freestone writes; Rock Camp CZ will be at the Cavern Club in Liverpool on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th from 1pm until 5-6pm each day. Most of this group of 12-17 year olds met up for the first time less than a year ago and formed themselves into groups. Such is their enthusiasm for great music, they each have created a mostly Queen set to perform. The bands are; HeroAge, No Noise, Grinder and The Drops plus a mixed group featuring an amazing vocalist. Come at the weekend and be part of the work-shop lead up and performances they are so excited to be giving. I am really proud to be associated with these guys, who really put their hearts into this music. |

KMBZ.COM Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) -- One of Katy Perry's biggest musical idols was the late Freddie Mercury of the legendary rock group Queen. Now, that band, and one of its songs, has provided inspiration for her brand-new fragrance. After teasing on Thursday via Twitter that she had "something very exciting to reveal," Katy announced that she'd been working on her third fragrance for "over a year," and had just attended the "elegant unveiling" of the perfume, called Killer Queen. Including a picture of the new perfume bottle, she added, "Can't wait to share the royal juice!" The bottle looks like a multi-faceted jewel, topped by a golden crown. "Killer Queen" is a song by the band Queen. It appeared on their 1974 album Sheer Heart Attack. Katy's previous fragrances, Meow and Purr, were cat-themed. Source ABC Radio |

SPENBOROUGH GUARDIAN We Will Rock You has already written itself into the musical theatre history books several times over, including recently passing its 4,000th successive performance at London’s Dominion Theatre. Now the show is about to embark upon its biggest incarnation yet, as a world arena tour, including four days in Sheffield at the end of May. And talking of May, legendary Queen guitarist Brian May still remembers how the record-breaking celebration of his band’s music got off to the least auspicious of starts. “We had the worst reviews in years, second only to Les Miserables,” he recounted. But that didn’t last as, suddenly, everything changed for the Ben Elton-penned musical. "We had two very fortunate things happen soon after we opened: One was the party at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the Queen’s golden jubilee in 2002, where we appeared on top of the palace with the cast singing Bohemian Rhapsody and We Are The Champions. The other was appearing on Michael Parkinson’s chat show. With those two bits of television, people were able to see for themselves what was in the show – and it became an avalanche, as people realised what was on offer.” And word-of-mouth quickly grew to build the show into a smash hit. “The secret of the show’s success is very simple – it’s word of mouth, the strongest force known to man,” said Brian. “No matter what mood people come in with, they come out laughing and smiling and punching the air so they can face the next day with a rock ’n’ roll attitude!” Right from the start, Brian and Queen colleague Roger Taylor have been intimately involved with We Will Rock You, although he credits Ben Elton – who now directs it – with providing the show’s shape and structure. Brian said: “The crucial thing was getting Ben in. We had already workshopped an earlier version, which was a history of Queen, but we weren’t comfortable portraying Freddie in a musical.” Instead, a giant gold statue of him now preserves his memory front of of the Dominion Theatre and, of course, his spirit lives on in the show’s unforgettable music. Brian has been at the forefront of casting the current arena show. “We still audition every new cast personally, whether in this country or other countries, as well as the band because they’re also vital,” he said. “The band isn’t separate with this show but a part of the team – they are in every sense part of the central motor that drives the production.” The good times will rock and roll at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, from Thursday May 30 to Sunday June 2. Wed 01 May 13** Across The Board Books™ proudly announces the release of the NEW ebook... Toronto, Canada – April 30th, 2013 – The Queen Chronology is a comprehensive account of the studio recording and release history of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor, who joined forces in 1971 as the classic line-up of the rock band Queen. For nearly 40 years, Queen has both topped the charts and embedded itself in the musical landscape worldwide, with such hits as “We Will Rock You", ”We Are The Champions", “Another One Bites The Dust” and “Bohemian Rhapsody". Their rock musical, We Will Rock You, and their Queen Extravaganza official tribute production both continue to carry on the band’s legacy to audiences long after the tragic passing of singer Freddie Mercury. Years of extensive research have gone into the creation of the Chronology, which covers the very beginnings of band members’ careers, their earliest songwriting efforts and recording sessions, through the recording and releasing of Queen’s 15 original studio albums with their classic line-up, to the present-day solo careers of Brian May and Roger Taylor. All of this information is presented date by date in chronological order, with detailed descriptions of each song version, including those both released and known to be unreleased. Every Queen and solo album, single, non-album track, edit, remix and extended version is examined, as are known demos or outtakes, pre-Queen recordings and guest appearances.
