**Thu 09 Oct 14** May be of interest to see where Freddie Mercury's vocal range lies, compared to other great and popular singers, according to this analysis... GIZMODO The original title of this graphic is The Vocal Ranges of the World's Greatest Singers. If you are confused as to why Axl Rose is on top of the chart over voices like Freddie Mercury or why the hell Lana del Rey and Lady Gaga are in this list, don't worry, it all has an explanation. The explanation is that these are not the greatest singers in the world. Some of them are, of course. But others are not because having a wide vocal range doesn't have a lot of importance when it comes to be a truly amazing singer. The textbook definition of vocal range is "the measure of the breadth of pitches that a human voice can phonate." But wven while you can hit all those notes, there are many more factors that separate the Lana del Reys and Lady Gagas of this world from the actual greatest singers of all time. First is the tessitura, which is "where the voice is most comfortable singing." While Axl Rose can hit more octaves than Freddie Mercury, that doesn't mean that Axl Rose is able to maintain those notes or hit them easily. Mercury, on the other hand, was known for his amazing flexibility. But perhaps the most important thing is the sound of the voice-the timbre-what distinguishes a rich voice full of personality from the run-of-the-mill voice pop voices that populate the charts. That's why most bands and singers today sound more or less the same, especially across each category. Example: Whiny folksy indie singers all sound the same. People like Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Elvis Presley, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash, Van Morrison, Marvin Gaye, or Tom Waits - to name a few from the list - have a distinct personality that has little to do with their vocal range, even while their vocal ranges allow to do certain things. Cash may not be able to hit the high notes of Christina Aguilera but that rag(g)ed voice was light years ahead in texture and personality. READ MORE HERE |

**Thu 09 Oct 14** Fandango Musical GmbH in association with Queen Theatrical Productions, Phil McIntyre Entertainments & Tribeca Theatrical Productions presents WE WILL ROCK YOU, the original QUEEN musical featuring 21 of the legendary band's greatest hits, will be rocking Hamburg for the first time from 13th March 2015 at the Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt! Thanks to its high variability and state of the art technical standards, the visionary theatre newly built in Hamburg’s old central market is the perfect venue for the bombastic production. WE WILL ROCK YOU will be the first Musical ever to perform in the new Hanseatic Theatre. WE WILL ROCK YOU, produced in conjunction with Brian May and Roger Taylor, is one of the most successful musicals of all time. More than sixteen million fans from around the world have already been rocked by the show, with more than 6.5 million alone at the Dominion Theatre, one of the biggest stages in the West End of London. No wonder We WILL ROCK YOU has won prizes such as the West End’s sought-after Olivier Audience Award, in 2011. Brian May: “Since our first concert in 1974, Queen always had a very enthusiastic and faithful audience in Hamburg. So we are very thrilled to present this latest, technically revised version of WE WILL ROCK YOU in Hamburg. We are very proud of this German production. It is like no other in the world. The ensemble and the group have their very own style. But what matters most... the show is live, dangerous and more than anything else: it rocks!” The Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt will be showing the updated original version of the QUEEN musical, including newly re-mastered video animations created by production designer, the late Mark Fisher in collaboration with the acclaimed lighting designer Willie Williams. Between them Fisher and Williams designed some of the most spectacular rock tours, most prominently their joint work for U2. The cast and band need to have what it takes to reach the high standards of QUEEN’s back catalogue and of this rhapsodic musical production, so they are being selected at international auditions. Then there will be intensive rehearsals before the premiere in Hamburg and the author and director Ben Elton himself will put the finishing touches to the script, giving the rock musical at the Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt its own, fresh feel. In Hamburg the music supervision will again be in the hands of rock icons Brian May and Roger Taylor themselves; after all, the QUEEN songs not only form the backbone to the story but also guarantee that extravagant rock sound. At the end the two legendary QUEEN musicians will decide who meets their high standards and can rock in the WE WILL ROCK YOU band in Hamburg. The original London version of the rock musical was written by the celebrated bestselling author Ben Elton (behind Mr Bean and more) and was produced by Queen Theatrical Productions along with Robert de Niro’s Tribeca Theatrical Productions and Phil McIntyre Entertainment. The music and lyrics to WE WILL ROCK YOU of course come from QUEEN, with Ben Elton again directing. The QUEEN story is one of the most impressive in pop history with more than 170 million albums sold worldwide, 18 number-one albums, numerous number-one singles and DVDs, joining the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame, over 700 concerts all over the world, including the historic appearance at Live Aid and a Guinness Book of World Records Award for the most successful UK chart album in history – QUEEN was and is one of the greatest rock groups of all time. 2011 marked the mega-group’s fortieth anniversary. Their own musical WE WILL ROCK YOU crowns the group’s incredible success story in an impressive way. WE WILL ROCK YOU tells the story of a globalized future without musical instruments. A handful of rock rebels, the Bohemians, fight against the all-powerful Globalsoft company and its boss, the Killer Queen; they fight for freedom, individuality and the rebirth of the age of rock. Scaramouche and Galileo, two young outsiders, cannot come to terms with the bleak conformist reality. They join the Bohemians and embark on the search to find the unlimited power of freedom, love and Rock! The very first “Rock Theatrical", as Brian May calls the musical, will be coming to the Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt from 13th March to 19th April 2015, in a lavish German production of the original. With a wink and many ironic sideswipes WE WILL ROCK YOU is more than just a show title, more than a musical and more than a rock concert – it is a promise: WE WILL ROCK YOU! Dates: Mon to Wed at 6.30 pm Previews: Fri 13th to Sun 15th March Premiere: Mon 16th March Tickets: From € 29.00 to € 99.00 (excl. booking fees), available through the local ticket hotlines +49 (0) 1805-2001 and +49 (0) 1806-570 070 as well as online at www.wewillrockyou.de, www.eintrittskarten.de and www.eventim.de Web-Page: www.wewillrockyou.de |

"The majestic. full-band rock version of Freddie Mercury's 1984 solo cut is the best surprise from Queen's new greatest hits set. Please support.... A fund raising campaign has been set up by a group of Queen fans to try and raise money to purchase licensing rights to footage in various Dutch TV stations' archives for use in a new Queen Documentary, hopefully for broadcast there late November. The fund raising is necessary as the committee can't afford everything listed with the available budget they have, even with the external sponsorship help. There is plenty of unseen footage here which many Queen fans would benefit from helping to invest in, to see used in this documentary. We have a little under 30 days left in the campaign as of time of writing. Check out here: Regards |

**Fri 03 Oct 14**
Queen Rock Montreal Look out for this in your local cinemas. SYNOPSIS Queen are one of the biggest selling bands of all time, with 18 number one albums and 18 number one singles to their name. During their peak in the 80s, few bands could fill stadiums like they could, and no other band had a frontman quite like Freddie Mercury. This legendary concert, filmed in Montreal, is regarded as one of their all-time best performances and was the first concert ever to be filmed in full cinema format 35mm. This has made it possible for the footage to be re-mastered in Ultra HD, resulting in a crisp picture that would not have been possible in 1981 when it was shot. As well as being visually stunning, the superb surround sound means that hits such as ‘We Will Rock You’ , ‘Another One Bites The Dust’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ have never sounded so good. As well as an enviable set-list which is all killer and zero filler, the show has a strong theatrical vibe which is rarely seen in rock concerts. Queen fans old and new will not want to pass on this essential cinematic event, check out the set list:
