Wielding a guitar, with a head full of luscious curls tumbling on to a casually unbuttoned shirt, what woman could resist the allure of Brian May?

That’s “Brian” as played by Gwilym Lee, 34, in the upcoming Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. And even former EastEnders actress Anita Dobson, who has been married to 71-year-old Brian for 18 years, found he husband’s young double totally irresistible.

“It was like looking at Brian when I first met him,” coos Anita. “It was very strange. They’re the same height, they’ve got quite a lot of similarity in the face, and once he put the curly jet black wig on, looking at him was quite bizarre.”

“He was handsome… he’s lovely. Gorgeous…” Catching herself, she notes: “Not as good as the real thing”. Of course.”

Anita is already tipping Rami Malek, 37, to be nominated for an Oscar for his role as Freddie Mercury. “There’s moments where you have to hold your breath because it’s almost like Fred’s alive,” she sighs.

Anita does not feature as a character in the upcoming movie, which is due out in October.

And she adds, sternly: “I’d sue the bottom off my husband if he dared to put me in one of his films, and he knows that.”

Anita hosted a fundraising lunch as vice president of The Sick Children’s Trust, which provides accommodation to families with seriously ill children in hospital in the UK.
