Brian May
It’s nearly half a century since Queen formed to become one of the greatest rock guitar bands ever, packing stadiums across the globe and selling more than 300 million records. Their cannon of 72 singles includes We Will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Me Now and We Are the Champions. Former Queen member and one of rock’s greatest and most recognisable guitarists, Brian May’s solo projects include Back to the Light, which produced two Top 10 singles, Too Much Love Will Kill You and Driven by You. A second solo album, Another World, was released in 1998. In 2017 he collaborated with Kerry Ellis for the first time since their 2013 record Acoustic by Candlelight. Golden Days.
Beyond music, May earned a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College London in 2006, worked as science team collaborator with NASA’s New Horizons Pluto mission and has even had an asteroid named after him. He’s also a committed animal rights activist, campaigning against the hunting of foxes and the culling of badgers in the UK. In 2018 as a member of Queen, he received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award which recognises “the most distinctive recordings in music history.”
