Good Company Lyrics

|

[In reply to a question –  why did Brian avoid rhyming line end of lyrics in his song, “Good Company? Why “The girl from Number Four” instead of “Number Three”?

– SEE LETTERS]

In a word, Duncan. Yes. It was specifically a nod to classic Uke player and saucy singer George Formby, who often would deliberately avoid a rhyme to deliver an innuendo. Example: (from ‘Chinese Laundry Blues’)

” Now Mr Wu – he’s got a naughty eye that glitters …

You ought to see it wobble when he’s ironing ladies’ blouses … “

OK ?!

It goes on …

“Mr Wu – what can I do ? ….

I’ve got those kind of Limehouse Chinese Laundry Blues ! “

With love
