An inverted rainbow ? Yes ! A smile in the sky !!!
OK ! I’m asking for help here ! In all my 69 years I never saw a ‘rainbow’ like this. The Sun was below and to the left in this photo – taken yesterday about an hour and a half before sunset. The centre of this arc is nowhere near either the Sun (as in a halo) or the anti solar point (as in a rainbow) I’ll have to check but I’d say its centre was around 90 degrees from either. What is it ? An ice bow ? It curves the wrong way for a sundog. But what’s the mechanism ?
