Congratulations to the James Webb Space Telescope team for a perfect launch today aboard an Ariane rocket. This wonderful piece of inspired technology will accompany us on our yearly journey around the Sun, ingeniously located about a million miles further out than the Earth, at a place in Space called L2. It will see further back in time than has ever been possible until now – to the time when the first stars were born out of the darkness following the Big Bang. Or so Astronomer’s believe. Of course, there are no guarantees that we will see what we expect to see ! That’s the whole point of looking there. That’s the fun of astrophysics !
