On This Day in Queen History – 29 March

In 1968 – The Art live at the Youth Club, Lutterworth, UK.
In 1969 – Smile live at the PJ’s Club, Truro, UK.
In 1970 – Smile decided to split up. Tim Staffell thought they just weren’t getting anywhere and he went on to join a band called Humpy Bong.
In 1974 – Queen played The Garden, Penzance, UK
In 1975 – Queen played Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, Santa Monica, California, USA (2 shows).
In 1976 – Queen played Kosei Nenkin Kaikan, Osaka, Japan (2 shows).
In 1976 – While in Osaka, Queen stay at the Osaka Royal Hotel [FOR 30 MARCH] Queen leave Osaka at 1pm by bullet train, arriving in Tokyo at 1.55. At 5.00 they all attend a press conference. While in Tokyo, they stay at the Keio Plaza in Shinjuku.
In 1977 – Queen awarded Gold for “Queen” album sales USA.
In 1992 – Brian appeared on BBC’s Guitar Legends programme, which had been recorded at the Seville Expo ’92 show in Spain.

In 1987 – Freddie attended a performance by Montserrat Caballe at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, where she sang “Exercises In Free Love” as an encore.

In 2008 – Cadbury’s new “Glass and a Half” advert, featuring airport trucks premiered, at 21.10 during the first of a new series of CSI: New York on Five, and featured Queen’s feel-good retro anthem, ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’.

In 2008 – WWRY Official Opening Singapore, Esplanade Theatre, Singapore.
In 2012 – Sonisphere 2012 announced cancellation of its Festivals for the year.
