Lady Gaga and Queen have certainly had time to bond recently while they’ve all been touring Australia at the same time. And the 28-year-old pop star gave Queen fans a lot more than they bargained for when she jumped up on stage to sing with Adam Lambert at Sydney’s Allphones Arena on Wednesday night. Considering the singer’s stage name was inspired by Queen’s famous Radio Gaga track, fans might have assumed she would have been tempted to join the band for this number. However, the ever unpredictable star actually hit the stage with her black curly wig for a joint performance with Adam of high energy hit, Another One Bites the Dust.

Queen review: Adam Lambert out-camps Freddie Mercury in Sydney

Pop chameleon Lady Gaga joined classic British rock band Queen for a surprise joint performance on stage at Sydney’s Allphones Arena on Wednesday night.

Gaga sidled on stage wearing a comical black curly wig, bejewelled black overalls and lethal-looking stilettos for the hit Another One Bites The Dust. She and new Queen lead singer Adam Lambert delighted the crowd hamming it up during their duo on the Allphones runway but she departed after one song.  Perhaps surprisingly she didn’t stay for the 1984 hit Radio Gaga, the song that gave Stefani Germanotta her stage name.

But perhaps she had to prepare for her own headlining concert spectacular at the same venue this Sunday.

Lambert, a former American Idol star, did an impressive job performing the anthems the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury made world-famous with his powerful vocals and dramatic stage presence.

Lambert did justice to Mercury’s enormous legacy, delivering his own brand of showy charisma without attempting to steal the show. He even thanked the audience for accepting him in Freddie’s place. “I’d have no idea what I was doing with this music if it wasn’t for the late great Freddie Mercury.”
