Killer Queen are back and they are the champions. It’s time to go gaga for a new Aussie production of the hit Queen musical We Will Rock You which will be touring next year. The writer and comedian extraordinaire, Ben Elton joined TODAY to tell us how the musical has gone beyond the band and become a worldwide sensation in its own right.

“We not looking for a Freddie, everyone has their own Freddie inside them.” Elton said of casting. “We’re looking for someone who would make Freddie proud.”

Elton worked closely with ex-members and the family of the late Mercury to carry on the legacy of the songs. “The whole point of We Will Rock you, is it’s about empowerment, it’s about the fact that we can all be champions.”

Elton then explained that ‘Somebody To Love’ isn’t a love song, but a story of seeking self-love. “Queen were a democracy, and they did nothing unless everyone voted together. It wasn’t Freddie’s band, all members of Queen wrote number ones, that’s unique in all rock n roll history,”

Elton explained. “They were a collective of passionate artists.”
