Freddie For A Day

“Whatever you do, don’t make me boring”, Freddie Mercury.

Ahead of the upcoming Twentieth Century Fox film Bohemian Rhapsody, Carnaby will be celebrating ‘Freddie For A Day’ on Wednesday 5th September.

The ‘Freddie For A Day’ initiative is a celebration of the iconic Freddie Mercury, and what better way than to celebrate an icon than under Carnaby’s iconic arch? ‘Freddie For A Day’ brings people together to dress as Freddie to raise awareness and much-needed funds to support the work of the Mercury Phoenix Trust – fighting AIDS worldwide. The initiative was launched in 2010 and is held every 5th September, Freddie’s birthday, and this year will be celebrated in London’s iconic music and fashion district, Carnaby.

Carnaby’s shops, bars and restaurants will join in the celebration to collect donations for the trust by selling the famous Freddie ‘tache and donning their best Freddie attire. The entire Carnaby community; residents, workers, businesses as well as visitors are encouraged to head to Carnaby Street at 12.30pm on Wednesday 5th September wearing their Freddie moustache for an exciting photo call under Carnaby’s iconic arch. Freddie fans can enjoy music from Bulsara and His Queenies, 7-piece band performing the music of Queen live on Carnaby Street.

Visit Carnaby Street stores including: Ben Sherman, New Era, Ray-Ban, Irregular Choice and Sweaty Betty to pick up a Freddie moustache for a charity donation of £2. Nixon, Jack Wills, Superga and Onitsuka Tiger will also be joining in on the fun. Moustaches will be available at Carnaby restaurants and pubs including; pasta concept Pastaio, Kua ‘Aina, Whyte & Brown and The Shakespeare’s Head. Bakery Crumbs & Doilies will also be selling exclusive yellow and moustache themed cupcakes whilst Urban Decay will be hosting a Yellow themed Makeup Day at their Carnaby Street flagship store.

Fans and friends around the world can celebrate ‘Freddie For A Day’, and have fun, but also have the serious aim of raising money and awareness to fight AIDS worldwide
