Roger Taylor and Paul Whitehouse entertained a sold-out crowd at the Circuit Club in Kingston-upon-Thames last night, with the ‘In Conversation’ event forming part of the promotion for Roger’s forthcoming solo album, Violence Insane In a Beautiful World.
The 10-track album was played in full in the lead-up to the duo taking to the stage, before Roger and Whitehouse settled into a relaxed, funny and often revealing conversation about the album and its gestation.
Led by Whitehouse, the pair offered a track-by-track discussion that opened the door to all manner of subjects, including Roger’s favourite drummers, world politics, John Lennon, environmental issues, memorable Queen shows, Freddie Mercury, Roger’s upcoming solo tour, The Darkness, working with Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert and the art of songwriting.
There were also questions from the audience, with a particularly entertaining back-and-forth developing around the subject of ‘singing drummers’.
