Brian May became embroiled in a heated debate with a veterinary surgeon [Den Leonard] on a UK morning show after an independent panel ruled last year’s (13) badger cull was ineffective and inhumane.

The Queen rocker was fiercely opposed to the cull proposed by officials in the west of England last year, and subsequent analysis by the Independent Expert Panel – released on Friday (28 Feb 14) – concluded the scheme had been ineffective and inhumane.

May appeared on BBC Breakfast via video link on Friday to campaign for tuberculosis vaccinations in badgers and cows rather than culling, but he ended up in an intense debate with an opposing vet and branded him “incredibly uninformed”. Taking to Twitter.com after the debate, he writes, “I was actually amazed the vet was allowed to shout me down when he’d had an uninterrupted say. But bullies always shoot themselves in foot.” He then wrote to fellow panellist Phil Latham, adding, “That was hardly worth either of us getting up at 5am for! I’d still like to sit down quietly and talk.”
