Classic Rock Awards

The Classic Rock Roll Honour Awards 2015 red carpet saw both classic rock music icons as well as new artists and bands; legends and upcoming stars patiently answered questions and posed for photos before heading to the ceremony. We were star struck when Led Zeppelin’s iconic Jimmy Page walked towards us, greeting us with a warm smile. He emphasised the importance of accepting all kinds of music and told us that he was thrilled to be there.

Brian May enthusiastically chatted to us about musical influences, while Alice Cooper and his wife looked very much in love, opening up about plans for their 40th wedding anniversary. Both looking spectacularly stylish, to everyone’s delight, the dynamic duo posed for photos together.

Janie Hendrix, guitar phenomenon Jimi Hendrix’s sister, was all smiles as she remembered her favourites memories with him and talked about her brother’s influence on the music industry. Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister, top guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani, prog rock golden boy Steven Wilson and American southern country band Blackberry Smoke were among the many others interviewed.

Brian May dedicates Living Legend Award to Freddie Mercury
12 Nov 15

Brian May paid tribute to Queen frontman Freddie Mercury as he picked up an award on Wednesday (11Nov15). Queen star Brian May saluted the band’s late singer as he collected the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour’s Living Legends award in London… The guitarist dedicated the group’s latest accolade to the “incredible and irrepressible” Freddie Mercury.

“I know he would have loved to have been here for this,” May said, before thanking the rock community for their years of support. “We are fans too,” he stated. “We are here because of the likes of Jimmy Page and the forever awesome Jimi Hendrix. I want to say thank you to the people who voted for us.”

And the rocker saved a special mention for Queen’s current frontman, Adam Lambert, calling the former American Idol star a “gift from God”.

Brian May picks up Living Legend Award for Queen at Classic Rock Awards 11 November 2015

Once again, a stellar line-up of rock royalty attended the event to celebrate what has been an incredible 12 months of music.

The evening’s guests of honour and recipients of the Living Legend Award were Queen, whose song Bohemian Rhapsody first charted on November 8, 1975, 40 years ago to the week of the Awards.

Their enigmatic frontman, Freddie Mercury, was one of the greatest of all time. His vocal range and musical vision was unique, and alongside the unmistakable guitar playing of Brian May, Roger Taylor’s thunderous drumming and John Deacon’s incredible bass lines, Queen became one of the UK’s greatest musical exports ever. Having sold in excess of 150 million albums, they have the unprecedented achievement of all four members being responsible for composing worldwide No.1 hits including We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Another One Bites The Dust, Radio Ga Ga and Under Pressure

. The award was presented to Brian May by Joe Satriani. Previous winners of the Living Legend Award include Jeff Beck, Alice Cooper, Jimmy Page, Lemmy Kilmister, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, Gregg Allman and ZZ Top. Joe Satriani I Interview I Music-News.com
