Report on Launch.
A lovely afternoon at Abbey Road Studios yesterday for the launch event for Brian’s ‘Star Fleet Project’. The session took place in the famous ‘Beatles’ Studio No.2, with competition winners and some Queen-related guests including Neil Murray (Brian May Band, We Will Rock You) and Neil Fairclough (Queen + Adam Lambert).
Brian reminisced about the 1983 recording sessions and how it all came together before being interviewed by Simon Lupton, taking questions from fans, listening and commenting on selected tracks from the box set and enjoying a Zoom call with Fred Mandel and Alan Gratzer who gave their memories on the project – Eddie Van Halen was a key topic throughout the whole presentation.
The event was rounded off with a surprise for Brian with early birthday messages being relayed from the screen from many of BM’s friends including Tony Iommi, Adam Lambert, Joe Satriani, Def Leppard, Steve Lukather, and, of course, Roger Taylor. A Star Fleet cake was also presented!
