BENNU !!! SAMPLE RETURN ! Remember I spoke to you folks about looking in 3-D at the material brought back by the amazing NASA mission ORIRIS REx ? But there was an embargo on the images last week until all the permissions were obtained from the upper level offices of NASA. Well the time has now come ! This, just to remind you, was the way the TAGSAM canister looked after the outer seal was broken. The whole ‘unwrapping’ operation (this just the beginning) is carried out in a sealed off inert atmosphere, of course, to minimise Earthly contamination. So – next post – I’ll show you what this precious coal-like powder from a 4-and-a -half-billion-year-old rubble pile looks like in close-up. OK ? ! Bri

Here’s four different renderings of the same stereo image – zooming a little further in each time.
Firstly in parallel free-view format – or (for the best experience) viewing in a stereoscope such as our own LSC OWL viewer. Then cross-eyed views if you’re that way inclined.
Visit the OSIRIS REx website or NASA.gov for more details of what we are looking at here. Also follow @nasasolarsystem. I’ll add some more detail later.
Meanwhile tell me what you see !
