BRIAN MAY, the legendary Queen guitarist, has lovingly compiled an album featuring the finest Rock Guitar Anthems of all time.

Air Guitar Anthems is released on 18th November and will provide rock fans across the UK with the perfect antidote to Perry Como this Christmas.

In a recent interview Brian May revealed his first air guitar influence, Elvis Presley’s ‘Jailhouse Rock’, with its simple two-chord riff. “I found that I could do that”, said May, “and that’s the great thing – you don’t have to be a great guitar player to play a lot of these riffs. You can pick it up and in a few hours, you can get to something that makes you feel good.”

A labour of love for Brian May, the ‘Air Guitar Anthems’ concept goes back to Brian’s original ‘The Best Air Guitar Album in the World…Ever’ series which sold 1.3m copies across its three volumes in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

“Most music fans love a rock riff and everyone has an ‘air guitar’ moment at least once in their lives”, said Brian, “for me and all the other artists on this record, that has turned into a career!”

This album demonstrates the continuing popularity of air guitar riffs. The amazing track list is no small part thanks to Brian, who put in personal calls to artists to ensure their songs appeared on the album:

• Led Zeppelin ‘Whole Lotta Love’ (Led Zep NEVER usually allow tracks on compilations – Brian ‘gave Jimmy a call’!);
• Metallica ‘Stone Cold Crazy’ (an awesome Queen cover from their 1974 album ‘Sheer Heart Attack’);
• Kiss ‘Crazy Crazy Nights’, Whitesnake ‘Here I Go Again’, Derek & the Dominoes ‘Layla’, Motorhead, The Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, T-Rex… the list goes on!

The album opens with the epic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, which celebrates its 40th anniversary as a global smash (the song was, of course, first released in the UK in 1975 but in ‘76 it became an international hit). The rock-out section in the song “is actually Freddie’s riff which he played on the piano first.” – Brian May.

And fittingly, the 3CD set closes with ‘We Will Rock You’ from 1977. Has there ever been a better guitar solo?
