[Brian was asked if it was possible to make a stereo image from a flat picture – see LETTERS]

Well, it’s possible to create a stereo image from a flat one … it’s called ‘conversion’ in the 3-D world. But it can only be done by painstakingly moving parts of the image around, to imitate the parallax differences that would have been there if it were a real stereo pair of images. It’s very labour intensive and – for a film especially – very expensive.

You can’t do it by taking photos of a flat photo from different angles, I’m afraid … the depth information in the original scene just isn’t there.
