So sad to hear of the passing of NASA astronaut hero Alan Bean – the fourth man to walk on the Moon.
Alan was a very accomplished artist, and had just given us (the London Stereoscopic Company) his blessing for us to reproduce this great painting of his in our forthcoming 3-D book on the Space Race.
It’s a portrait of Neil Armstrong, the very first man to walk on the Moon. We are all familiar with Armstrong’s iconic photograph of Buzz Aldrin on the moon, but no corresponding photograph of Armstrong exists. In this painting, Alan Bean has corrected that omission, and he depicts Neil Armstrong at the very moment when he took that iconic picture of Buzz.
We honour you, Alan.
