DART IMPACT: First picture of the aftermath

DART first picture of aftermath

Well, for those who are interested, this picture was just sent back to Earth by the small Italian ‘cubesat’ that was piggy-backed on the DART guided missile. It seems to show a Hell of a mess – but it’s hard to be sure what’s actually transpired. Apparently there has been radar confirmation that the moonlet Dimorphos DOES still exist. But in what state we do not know.

Did the missile cause a giant crater ? Or actually pass through the object ?

It seems we will have to wait 4 years for clear answers – when the HERA mission arrives there to survey the scene.

What do you folks feel about all this ? I’d like to know.

Cheers – Bri
