A third Japanese “QUEEN THE GREATEST POP-UP STORE” will be open in Nagoya from Friday 1st September to Wednesday 13th September.
The Queen concept pop-up store, which has also traded in Tokyo in December 2022, and Kyoto in June 2023 is coming to Nagoya for the first time this Summer.
The store is based upon the deep bond that Queen has built in Japan from their very first Japanese tour in April 1975 to the present day and is being held to mark their continuing 50th-anniversary celebrations since the band’s formation in 1971.
It will be held for a limited time from September 1st (Friday) to September 13th (Wednesday) at LACHIC, the shopping complex in the Sakae district in the centre of Nagoya that also houses fashion and interior outlets. Freddie Mercury and John Deacon visited Nagoya Castle for sightseeing when they first came to Japan in 1975.
This project in Japan is a spin-off of the official ‘QUEEN THE GREATEST POP-UP STORE’ held in Carnaby Street, London in late 2021 / early 2022 with Nagoya being the forth city to hold it globally, following London, Tokyo and Kyoto.
After their first tour of Japan in 1975, the band visited Japan repeatedly and, unusually for a foreign artist at the time, also performed actively in Sapporo, Sendai, Yamaguchi and other cities. Queen guitarist Brian May wrote ‘Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together)’ which included Japanese lyrics and Freddie Mercury collected traditional Japanese items from places during his own private visits to Japan. The story of Freddie Mercury’s building a Japanese garden in his London home is also very well known.
The deep relationship between Queen and their Japanese fans has long been established and continues to grow with such projects. To demonstrate this the store will display photos of Queen members during their visits to Japan and sell a variety of products with a ‘Japanese’ theme that are exclusive to the store.
As well as the photo exhibition and merchandise that appeared in Tokyo and Kyoto, the Nagoya shop will also sell a number of new products that will be on display for the first time.
This is a limited-time-only event in the region, and we hope you will take the opportunity to visit.
